She is not only my mother but also my heroine, my best friend and a sister like l have never had. In times of sorrow, she wipes my tears, in times of sickness she becomes my doctor, in times of giving up she becomes my motivator, and in times of hardships she becomes my baggage carrier.
Being the daughter of my mother, l grew up as a humble and well-reserved girl who only knew how to live indoors. I was mostly not interested in whatever was happening outside. As a child l enjoyed making dresses for my dolls not knowing that l had a passion for designing clothes. At the primary level, l had aspirations of being a lawyer because l used to stand up for my friends at school whenever they were in trouble and also l used to see myself in court defending the voiceless victims in court. Later, as time went by in my high school level, l found myself enjoying fashion in fabrics and computer operations more than anything else. l got so confused about what to do in my life until my mother intervened and helped me discover my purpose of being a clothing designer.
What's your favourite memory of your mother?
That is when l was a boarder in my secondary level. She used to visit me every Visiting Day at school (even though it was for a couple of hours) and would also pick me up at the drop point every Closing Day.
How is your relationship with your mother today? How has it evolved since the relationship first started?
My relationship with my mother has become so much stronger than before because of the situations that we have passed through. She encouraged me to open up a business that has almost become a success. If it wasn't for her, l wouldn't have taken the bold step of opening up my business (which she greatly supports with love and fulfillment).
What are some very specific ways that your mother has helped you to get to where you are today?
She became the first investor in my business, she bought me a machine and fabric that l used to make my first attire that she herself advertised - and l got more customers from that outfit that l made reluctantly.
