Tell us about yourself. What's your background? How did you become involved in your cause?
I am Nusrat Ananna, a 28 year old living in Bangladesh. I have a Bachelor’s in Economics.
Growing up I always had trouble finding my own clothes. They say “free size” but it ends with size 42/44 (EU)! The “plus-size” section always had the most boring clothes! I thought to myself “how many people face the same thing?” and I had to do something about it. Hence, my initiative - BOLD!
Tell us more. Why do you think this is so important?
In a country like Bangladesh, where there is NO clothing brand for plus sized women, BOLD is making an impact. Fashion is our expression, and we have a passion for it. But it doesn’t stop there. We want to make a difference. We want to empower women to empower the world!
It becomes a struggle for many of us to choose our desired clothing, especially when we look for plus-sized ones. These endless struggles with outfits have ended with us! BOLD is a platform where all plus-sized beauties can find their desired clothes. We are here to help people get the dresses that are suitable for them. Our aim is to be a platform where all plus-size women can find clothing they trust to feel comfortable and confident wearing.
How does BOLD work?
With BOLD, all plus-sized women can find clothes to complement their bodies. They can order clothes with their measurements and get the clothes they want. We have real life plus-sized women as models of our clothes, which is a rare thing in Bangladesh. And this has been very well received in the community.
How and when will you judge success? What’s your end point?
Our end point? When no plus-sized women goes home sad because they couldn’t find a dress for their size! Beauty comes in every size and shape, and people must work towards it rather than just saying it. I want to create a platform where all the plus size women can confidently shop their desired products without getting shamed for their size.
