Marci-Lee

What does life as a woman or girl look like in your country/city/town/village? Any issues/challenges/milestones?

Being a woman in Jamaica can be hard. We are often depicted sexually in Dancehall and promotions. We are cat-called on a daily basis no matter what we wear and we are supposed to accept it as a compliment. Some men say that we call down rape on ourselves based on what we wear, which is sickening.

What would you like the world to know about YOU? What life experience, challenge or achievement do you want to share?

One of my life achievements would be that I am following my dreams in becoming an actress. It is looked down on in Jamaica. I have been told I should change my career path and that I will suffer. However, I will be an inspiration to others like me and be successful in the theatre world. Watch me.

What are you most passionate about and what are you doing with that passion?

THEATRE! I'm in love with acting and anything that has to do with it whether it's being onstage, backstage, doing lights, sound, front of house etc. Right now I'm in the school of drama trying to get B.F.A in Theatre Arts. It's scary when all the graduates are going into teaching because that is not what I want to do. After school I want to do my Masters in New York and work with people that have the same determination and passion as me. I want to grow farther in my talent with the community I belong in... And I will. I might not know how or when but its gonna happen.

Complete this sentence: "To be a girl or woman today, is to be..."

BOLD, yourself, and standing up for your rights - like what Bob Marley said.
